Metzger Design was retained to design and build a new animal hospital for a local doctor who had identified Zion's Crossroads and an under-served market in Central Virginia. The design of the clinic is primarily focused on the central treatment room with easy access to surgical and radiation suites. The front of house space is well defined with a spacious and inviting reception area with three exam rooms conveniently located along the main entry hallway. With future expansion in mind, the kennel was designed with the potential to board animals for short periods and also with an opportunity to build additional space within the second floor attic structure. Metzger Design was retained by the Owner's of Horseshoe Farm to design and build a new carriage house adjacent to their primary residence - a historic manor house situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.
Our primary concerns and challenges were to develop a design that was complimentary to both the existing home and the multitude of accessory structures and barns located on the property. Great care was taken to preserve the existing infrastructure and mature landscape that provide much of the character of this idyllic property.

Rockbridge Residence is a mountain retreat on a property located within the George Washington National Forest. Standing upon a bluff at an elevation of 3,000 feet above sea level the primary design focus was to preserve the 180 degree view of the mountains from all rooms in the house. Further challenges were presented by the client with an extensive building program but with a desire to develop a project that was 'old-world' in size and quality and maintenance free.

Metzger Design was retained to design this veterinary clinic in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
The design of the clinic was greatly influenced by the unique dimensions - with exterior dimensions of 25' wide by 160' long. Metzger Design was also mindful of the great history that has been preserved in the area and sought to have a storefront that fit well within the Old Town Alexandria Historic District.
